My new substitution for foie gras, and my favorite japanese food in the world (and I mean it.)

So yesterday I went to Kikuya's on Governor Drive for dinner. It's been kinda long since the last time I went there, with the trip back home and all that, but gawd, did I enjoy it. I was stuffing nigiris vigorously as Jenn was complaining to me about her woes. There were moments when I would just motion her to stop talking so that I could just close my eyes and savor the taste of the sushi. It was THAT good. I think the sushi chef thinks i'm retarded, cuz everytime I stop Jenn, he would chuckle to himself. Well then. Anyway, I've tasted really good sushi in Osaka, but this, THIS, is unbeatable. I believe myself to be extremely picky about food, but the fish is sooo fresh here, and the cut of the fish, the perfectly moulded and cooked sushi rice, the melt-in-your-mouth uni... there's heaven on earth after all. :D Well I order about 2 orders of uni, and 4 orders of other fish and the bill wasn't pretty. But was it good. :P
Just look at the presentation of the striped bass sushi. It was wonderfully cut, deliciously fresh, and beautifully decorated. The taste of the ponzu sauce, merged with the sesame seeds gave the fish a very very refreshing taste.
Okay, uni is my new substitution for foie gras. It has the same consistency as foie gras, and the uni here is the BEST i've ever had. It literally melts in your mouth, leaving a wonderful aftertaste. Apparently, Japan imports uni from near San Diego too!
Sorry for the splatter of wasabi on it. I was going to eat it when I realized I forgot the pictures. Heh heh. The Hotate (scallop) was big and really fresh! They have another version where it's chopped up scallops with spicy mayo and fish roe. Equally good.

Okay, so if you guys are really interested in more food from this place, there's a review on it on my facebook notes. So.

On another note, M booked the tickets for our Hawaii escapade! You know, for a man of immense intelligence and wit, the guy can't, for the love of God, multi-task. He tried to spell my full name, and got a letter wrong. So I corrected him, and all this while, he was poring through the travel options. And after he booked the ticket, and sent me the itinerary, I found my name to be 1) wrongly spelled like the first time he said it 2) lacking my last name. -__- It really was pretty tickling, 'cuz you know how people always say guys cannot multi-task? He's the epitome of that. Maybe it's because guys used to be hunters and need to be focused on one matter. Whereas us women had to look after the kids, do laundry, cook, blah blah blah at the same time. So it's in our evolution path. But yea, it was very amusing trying to quiz him on different things when he's doing something else, and just hearing how he's trying to answer them with immense difficulty, or just grunts when he gives up trying to talk. Ah, my best friend's pretty amusing at times like this. :)

My precious sista!

"如果我們兩個只能活一個,我希望是你"

I was reading my sister's blog, and she wrote this line for me (I had to cut and paste from her blog 'cuz I don't have the mandarin kit on my computer). For those of you who don't really understand mandarin, it means "If only one of us gets to live, I want it to be you". T__T I miss my sister! I know the reason behind her saying that is because of this recent serial in which one brother wants to donate part of his liver to save his younger brother, even though the former has a history of cardiac malfunction, rendering him unfit for surgery. *sobs* Yea, I was thinking about it when I saw that scene she's referring to. I'd rather my sister live. Man, she can have my whole liver if she wants. It's funny how we're separated by thousands of miles between us, and yet we think about each other at the same instances. It's like we're bound by an invisible thread... I guess that's what you call a family tie. Heh. I love my sister to death. If both of us haven't eaten for days, I would surrender all my food to her. And you guys know how I can't do without food. Yeap, I don't think there's anything in the world I wouldn't do for her. :) On another note, I think my sister is crazy. All she writes in her blog is that she's getting fat. If she gains a kg everytime she blogs about getting fatter yet AGAIN, I swear she must be a hundred kgs by now. -__- And to my sis: please eat! you know you get giddy spells, so how can you eat less! Please eat stuff with more iron- according to wikipedia, that means more meat, more fish, more tofu (I'm omitting all vegetable choices cuz I know that's out of the question for you). Take care of yourself ah. Please don't make me worry.

Treated like a princess.

There's always some people in life who treats you like a princess. Every night before I close my eyes, I thank whoever's up there for putting these people in my life. ^___^ 'Cuz it's friends like this who make the flowers smell fresher, the sky a little more blue, and the steps a little lighter. Thank you, you know who you are. :)

HAWAII!

So my best friend M. and I are going to take Honolulu by storm this thanksgiving! :D It's been almost a year since we hung out, so it'll be pretty cool! Can't wait. I need to get out of this darned place. Heh.

My comfort food of the day - tempura ice cream with a side of green tea ice cream (cuz the filling was vanilla, and I prefer green tea. Hoho.) No, I did not gobble the whole thing by myself: I shared the sin with Renee. Both of us went for a jog at our respective gyms consequently. Californians. They rub off me, I swear. Renee offered to pay for dinner cuz she felt bad about being flaky last Saturday. I didn't let her pay, of course, but the thought was appreciated and felt. :) I guess I'm feeling a tad better, thanks to all the sympathetic posts and text msges I've received the past day. Thank you guys. Since I'm feeling better, I shall bombard this post with samplings of food I've been cooking in the last few weeks. Recently, I've been cooking up a storm every Sunday night, and packaging the food into several Ziplock plastic cases for lunch from Monday till Friday. It's like a manufacturing line, really. So I'm stuck with the same food for lunch everyday. It usually tastes like heaven on Monday, and by Friday, I was ready to feed it to the dogs. So voila.
My first ever cooked meal ever since I was back in San D. I think I put the most effort in this one, prolly because I was still craving the mixed vegetable rice back in Singapore. I made a sorta meat-pie (which was possible due to the heavy ass steamer I brought back, only to find it online at Ranch 99 at 30 bucks. -__-), stewed wintermelon with dried scallops, and my favorite tomato omelette. And rice, of course. Yea, lasted 5 days.
Which after a few weeks of cooking other stuff, I got lazy and decided to make stewed pork mee hoon. It's kinda like a traditional fare, cooked with those canned stewed fatty pork. Only I got too health conscious, and threw out all the fat, and rinsed the lean meat twice before throwing it in to simmer with the bee hoon. Added carrots, cucumbers, pork, spinach etc. Very bland. Very healthy. Uh, very bland. I threw it out after thursday. Thriftiness has its limits.
I cooked this for dinner the other day. Was craving the simple udon sold in Tokyo, you know, the 400 yen noodle shops? I just made some ponzu sauce mixed with stock and mirin, and used it for the dipping sauce. No msg! :) The poached egg worked out beautifully as well.
And thus the manufacturing line. This, my friend, is my lunch for the rest of this week. Shredded chicken breast with spaghetti in tomato mushroom sauce with loads of garlic. Mm, I heart garlic.
And this is seared duck breast with a red wine reduction, from George's by the Cove. Surely you didn't think I cooked this. Ha.

P.S: Renee just got back from her workout after one and a half hour, and declared it as a "short workout". And I was feeling proud of my 25min jog. Someone strangle her for me, please?

Tonight, I don't need an audience. Tonight my music is all I have for company. I just want to be alone. The feeling is intangible... my heart is hollow, my mind blank and my room reeks of loneliness. Yet, I don't want to let anyone in.

I talked to my mum as usual tonight. I put on an apathetic voice to deter her from asking too much about me. In my heart, I really want to reach out to her, and pour my heart out to her. Yet, I refrained from doing so. It's almost like my mind wants to, but my heart feels too tired. Or maybe, I just didn't know how to put it into words. So I hung up. I can't handle my friends asking how I am. I don't want to pretend to be alright. It's too exhausting. So subconsciously, I keep pushing away my friends. I let the conversations trail off... am I wrong in doing that?

Being alone heightens every sound and sensation. The echo of the dripping water in the pipes, the warmth of my comforter around me. The rustle of the pages of the novel I'm reading. I just want to go to sleep. Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow, ready to face another brand new day.

What am I exactly lacking in my life? What is it that makes me feel unwell? Am I going into depression? Or am I thinking too much into matters? Where do I find the answers? Who do I talk to? What can I do to make myself feel better? It just occurred to me that I haven't truly felt happy in a long while... I'm falling. Who can be bothered to catch me this time around?
You know, considering that I got up at 4.30pm, my day (or rather, evening/night) was pretty constructive. After all, who can do three loads of laundry AND clean the whole apt within such a short time! Hohoho. Now my hands smell of bleach no matter how much moisturiser I slap on them. You have to admit, there is some therapeutic value to cleaning the house and doing laundry. You just feel like... you've accomplished so much! I even managed to squeeze in dinner at this quaint Italian restaurant in PB (Caffe Bella Italia- sorry i gobbled up the food before I could take pictures. Will review it the next time I go) with my friends from school. Dave is leaving me to move downtown *sulks*. It's not really like super far, but at the same time, it's gonna be harder for us to meet. And I'm without my shopping, movie-watching, bitching-about-people mate. Sigh. We had a super quick dinner, cuz service was really fast. Was gonna head to a house party with Renee but she flaked on me the last min cuz she's tired. So, I'm here, bored. So bored I went to the grocery store and stocked up on tomatoes, tomato juice, cherry tomatoes and pasta sauce. For some reason, I've been craving tomatoes recently, everytime I'm bored, be it on the plane or just being bored out of my brains on a Saturday night. I think this is the first Saturday night I'm at home ever since I got back from Singapore. I keep telling myself that I'm saving calories not drinking anyway. Gawd. I'm so boring. I know this is a terribly boring post, but well I'm bored, so you guys just have to suck it up and be bored by me. Misery seeks solace in company. Man, I wish they sell Peppridge Farm bread here over on the west coast....

Never exercise at night. Bah.

So I woke up at 4.30pm today. It wasn't exactly intentional, though I didn't keep to my habit of setting the alarm for 3pm every Saturday. I was horrified, to say the least. To lessen my guilt of being such a pig, I'll have to blame it on the exercise I did the night before. I arrived at my gym at UTC mall at 12 midnight to find it closed. Which is pretty ironic, given that the name of my gym is 24 hour fitness. How can they advocate 24hr-fitness when they close at frigging 11pm every night! I remember a year back, it used to be open round the clock every day of the week. After a few months, it started becoming wimpy by opening it 24 hr on weekdays, and till 12 midnight on the weekends. Which is fair, considering that their employees, the overly buffed up guys, need their partying time too. So I stuck to going late only on weekdays. Now, they are ultra wimpy by closing at 11pm everyday. -__- So I digress, anyway, my point was, I was feeling fat after eating a hearty Italian meal with my roomie, what with tomato cream sauce and cheesecake for dessert. I find it almost a DUTY to at least attempt to work out. So, out of frustration, I decided to run on the main roads surrounding the mall. Mind you, the mall is HUGE, and its circumference even so. I quit after 20 min though, cuz 1) I was pretty freaked out by the lack of lights, and well, the scary shadows cast by the trees 2) I seem to be the object of the bored security guards' amusement, since they started following me in their retarded-looking cart thing, letting out guffaws now and then. I mean, SERIOUSLY now, the security guards are supposed to curb our fears of any menace lurking in the mall, not to be a menace. They were creeping me out! I crawled into my car and grudgingly drove home, feeling kinda dumb. But well, I dozed off the instant my head hit the pillow. Well, anyway, my point of this post is that I realize that every time I go to the gym, I am incapable of waking up the next day. So next time I'm feeling lazy and reluctant to go to the gym, I shall just look at this post and feel justified for not going. Hoho.

Soft porn and Drunken ole' times

What is it about couples and PDAs? I'm prolly not the most worthy person to comment on this, cuz I prolly was guilty of it in the past, but really, what's wrong with these people? I was down at PBBG today (surprising surprising, well I wasn't gonna go cuz I was kinda sick, but Renee aka Brandy ain't gonna be here next weekend, and I don't wanna punch myself for not hanging out with her this week), and we saw this couple at one of the booth seats. Seriously, throughout the whole hour we were sitting there, they were pretty much pretending that they were in a steamy hotel room. The girl even dared to shoot a vicious look at me, like "stop staring at us in that funny way!". Hello people, sound advice to you guys: GET A ROOM! This couple was particularly disgusting, for several reasons. 1) They weren't exactly Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie 2) They were frolicking and giggling in obnoxious ways 3) They were only momentarily distracted for TWO WHOLE seconds, when the girl saw a roach on the wall and squealed, to which the guy took a paper napkin and smothered the poor roach, leaving the girl in delirious awe, and of course, leading to enthusiastic kissing. I mean, I can understand couples who hold hands, and kiss at times. I mean, which couple doesn't want to show the WHOLE world that they're in love? *cues birds chirping and flowers blooming* BUT, please, we don't want soft porn, thank you very much.

On another note, PBBG was pretty fun tonight, and before I left for it, I received these photos of the last time we went to PBBG from my galfriend. I was mortified, for good reasons. 1) I looked absolutely trashed in the pictures 2) Who the f*** is the topless guy carrying me around (who was actually my friend's friend, and he carried every one of us.)
Anyway it was last Sunday, and we were celebrating my friend's birthday with copious amounts of soju. Between us four petite girls, we gurgled down 6 pitchers of yogurt soju, and start talking in loud and high pitched tones. Mind you, this was at a korean restaurant. We got in early, around 5, for the 1 for 1 soju deal, and we were drinking till 10. On a Sunday night. I bet the rest of the diners must want to punch us so bad. The waiters love us tho, prolly cuz we were providing comic relief for a boring sunday night. They started toggling with the light switches, to create a flashing light effect, and lo and behold, we started dancing. In short, we went down to PBBG in my car with the top down, waving and yelling to every car that passes us by, flirted with the cops who wanted to book us, got carried around by topless guys, among other things. Man, it'll be a loooong time till I'll get THAT drunk.
I was still sober at this stage...
which didn't last long, cuz I don't remember where this lollipop came from.
Surely I can do a better pose than that.
Yea, no soju for a LOOONG time. It should be banned. Hurr.

What's wrong with this world?

Isn't it kinda sad how people are never content with their lot? The ugly girl wishing she could be one of the pretty ones, the pretty ones who think they're never pretty enough. The single girls who wish to have someone to love, the attached one who dreams about playing the field again. The guy who never got some for a long time, the guy who gets it everyday, but wishes it was a better f***. The poor guy wishing he could have more money, the rich guy wishing he could have more friends. It's about time that we take a deep breath, and appreciate ourselves for who we are. Fine, you might not have as much wealth as you'd like to possess, or as pretty as a supermodel, but hey, you're healthy, you have friends and family who care about you, you never have to worry about the next meal. For the good-looking people, you're hot. You might not be the "hottest", but you get enough attention as it is. For the girls who thinks they're not thin enough, stick-thin girls look pretty scary, and most guys I know are not into too skinny girls. At the end of the day, we'll all lead happier lives being content. Appreciate the things you have, strive for the things you don't. If it fails, hey at least you're still left with the things that make you YOU, and you didn't lose anything. Btw, maybe I should start with a poll about whether guys like stick-thin girls or girls who look healthy. Ha. Anyone?

Singapore vs United States

Recently, I've been contemplating whether to take a trip back to Singapore for X'mas. I took a really long time thinking about it, and finally I came up with a list of pros and cons for both Singapore and the States:

Singapore-Pros
1) Food. I don't want to come across as a glutton, but well, it's pretty much on my mind all the time.
2) Parents. Who doesn't love the pampering from his/her parents. I'm no exception. (Even though I usually get special treatment for the first 4 days I'm back, after which they just take it like I was there all along. Oh well, better than nothing. )
3) My sisters! Playing wii with anyone else just doesn't feel quite the same.
4) Clubs, and supper places close at 4-6am (That's how it should be for every country, not the peasy 1.30am closing time in San D. Bah.)
5) Foie Gras. I know this should go under point 1, but well, there's this japanese restaurant called shin-kushiya which offers S$8.50 foie gras skewers, and trust me, it will knock the socks off you.
6) Mandarin pop tunes. I listen to English songs 99% of the time, but whenever I'm back, my sister will infuse me with the popular chinese pop tunes in the last few months. It's kinda cool after all the songs I hear in San Diego (*cues "This is why I'm hot, this is why I'm hot...x3")
7) Shopping. Well, cheap clothes! Though brand name stuff are usually more expensive, especially Coach.
8) My remaining friends in Singapore. A lot of my friends are either in US or UK, but I have some old friends left.

Singapore - Cons
1) The heat. The insufferable heat. The heat that will kill us all.
2) Public transport. People squeezing in and out of trains. Cabs refusing to pick us up during peak hours unless we book one. Which is ridiculous, because calling the booking hotline is even harder than getting through to a live program on radio.
3) Parents. *cues curfew curfew curfew*
4) Expensive booze prices! I don't get it. Really. Raising the prices so that we'll be deterred from drinking? Pretty low blow, if you ask me.
5) Baaaaad service.
6) The lines! It's ridiculous how fond of lines Singaporeans are.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQwA5PakzSU&mode=related&search=

US- Pros
1) I heart Nordstrom. Shopping isn't that cheap, but well, at least the brand names are cheaper.
2) Good japanese food. I've had a lot of crappy japanese food in Singapore. The japanese food here are almost comparable to Japan, due to the large population of Japanese. Woot!
3) Absense of parents. I love them to death, but I can't emphasize this point enough about general restrictions.
4) My car. I've developed such a dependence on my car, I even drive to my laundry facility, which is half a block away.
5) Gym. Regardless of the 100% relying on my car, I go to gym a lot. It's just one of those things about Cali. Besides, pilates rocks.
6) PBBG Thursday nights with Brandy. Who can beat $2 drinks?
7) My close friends here. Enough said, you know who you are. :)
8) Better TV shows. I mean, there's a reason why Singapore shows American TV too, right?
9) Better service in general. I guess the tipping system MIGHT have something to do with it. :P
10) Weather, and the gorgeous beaches. We wake up every day, look at the clear blue sky, think to ourselves "Boring.", then back to sleep. Spoilt brats, all of us.
11) Jenn's Mercedes SLK. I know that's pretty shallow, but I just love being in it. :D
12) Jenn. Heehee. :D

US- cons
1) Oily Chinese food. Seriously, if the Chinese chefs start eating the food they cook everyday, they might all perish of atherosclerosis ten years from now together, and "kung pow chicken" will be forever erased from our memories.
2) Ban on foie gras. I'm still bitter, mind you.
3) Restaurants close at 10, clubs at 1.30am. WTH.
4) Slimy guys trying to grope your arse in clubs. Don't get me wrong, there are hoards of slimy guys in Singapore clubs as well, but they just don't have the balls to do it. Usually.
5) Lousy and outdated cell phone models.
6) Exorbitant cell phone plans. I mean, they even charge you when you receive smses. Bah.

My conclusion? Mm, more pros for US? F*** it, I'm going back to Singapore. *cues Singapore National Anthem* :p

Monday, August 20, 2007

Gawd, this is one helluva sweet proposal.

http://est1976.blogsome.com/2007/08/19/sara-and-i-just-got-engaged/

My marathon through D.C.

Well, not quite, but all thanks to the inefficient metro, I ended up with only 20 min to visit the National Mall Lane. Refusing to be beaten by the hands of time, I broke into a mad dash, with my suitcase trailing after me, down the lane while snapping pictures randomly. I must look quite the sight. Plus I was wearing heels. -__-
Anyways, below are some of the snapspots I took:

The White House.

Some inscriptions on the floor, about how you shouldn't mess around with the government. (I had to speed-read them while running across.)
Too far to run to. Decided to abandon task and just take a wimpy shot from afar. Ha.

The metro station.

Some important-looking buildings.

Gee, I'm feeling a little out of breath, just looking at these pictures again.
So Washington proved to be quite an experience for me. I'm just going to narrate it with pics: So I got to Reagen Airport after 6 ish hours of flight. I slept about 2/3 of the way, since I only slept 3 hours the day before (Just couldn't resist PB Bar and Grill. Heh. )
I had to take the metro down to Adams Morgan to meet Tom, the only friend I knew who was going to the wedding. The first stop right after the airport was "Crystal City", and with the granite dome-like interior of the metro, it just feels like something out of a sci fi movie. Even the escalator up to ground level was covered in granite and dim lights. It was awesome. The only thing not too awesome is prolly the waiting time for the trains, and the no-reception zone in the trains. Bah. I'll need one of those PSP-hand held if I had to live there.

Anyways, after an arduous journey, I finally met up with Tom, and we went for dinner and drinks after. His friends were pretty entertaining, and very eager to get plastered. We ended up getting pretty drunk and getting some sort of Mexican pastry from one of the supper stores. And also drunkedly got into a cab driven by a shady ass Ethopian who charged us 70 bucks for the trip to the hotel (the normal rate was 50, which I later found out). To make it worse, Tom bought him food and gave him a 20 dollar tip. Gawd. But Tom was pretty entertaining as a drunk tho. The driver tried to talk to him in English, and Tom kept replying in a slur "I'm not in the mood to talk in a different language right now, dude." and kept trying to cough up bits of Spanish (cuz he thought the guy was Mexican.) Ha ha.

And we were mortified to find only a king-sized bed in the hotel room, and had to get an additional uncomfortable-as-hell roll up bed. Thank you Tom for refusing to let me sleep in the roll up bed. Heh.
We got to the church ceremony the next morning, hungover as hell. It was a pretty church, in Rockville (Maryland).
The flower girl was the CUTEST THING ever! She's blond and blue-eyed, and had the sweetest giggle ever. Man, I want one of those. Ha.
Meredith looking gorgeous in her gown. The exchange of vows took about 1/2 hr, with loads of kneeling and praying. Noel stumbled on one of the parts. It was the sweetest thing ever, when they were holding hands and smiling at each other. Awwww.
Catching a quick shot with Meredith after the ceremony. After we took this with my phone camera, she was like "Now for the REAL camera (her pro photographer)". So condescending. Hurr.
Me with Tom, the belligerent drunk of yesterday.
The lodge where we had the reception and dinner. Such a quaint little inn!
Even the paper towels in the bathroom was pretty as well.

They had custom made lilac and white m&m's for their wedding souvenir. So Meredith. Ha.
Tom and I. Trying not to look hungover as well.
The rest of the crew at Table Seven. Spot the two pairs of sisters! I swear to God that I'm the only Asian at the wedding. The photographer kept trying to snap pictures of me to achieve a facade of diversity in the wedding. -___-

They looked so cute together! They ran out of wedding cake, and we were presented with replacement wedding cake. "We must get real wedding cake, after flying across the States!" So Tom and I snuck some cake off some other plate. It was totally worth it. Ha.
Tom and I were the only ones from California, so everyone just referred to us as the "Calis". Talk about being an outcast. Also, the front desk pple kept addressing me as Mrs. Cohen (Tom's last name). -__- I tried to correct them, but to no avail. Oh well.
I heart Meredith!
The best crabcake ever! Unlike the usual breaded not-so-good crabcakes we get in San Diego, this is a jumble of the most tender crab meat ever. I had four in 6 hours. So good.

So in short, Washington was pretty cool. A lot of late night eating spots (Learn, San Diego!) and bars. The only thing disturbing was the lack of Asians. Even Chinatown was filled with African Americans. I say we propose a migration scheme of very horny Asians here to D.C. That way, they can reproduce like mad and do us some justice. ^___^

"We enter the world alone, we leave the world alone."

Ever since I moved here to the states to study 5 years back, I feel like I've subconsciously try to prevent myself from being too attached to anyone around me. It's like I've somewhat weaved a protective bubble around myself, in order to cope with the instability in my life. I split my time between here and home, and as a result, my friends have been pretty transient. I can't count how many times I've weeped over the loss of a friend who moved back home, or decide to go to another country to work. I thought I'm rid of that all. I thought I am strong enough at this point of my life, to be able to handle anything. But I'm only human. Even though life has subject me to many partings, I can't help but cling on to the memories like a child to its security blanket. It's just that good friends are really hard to come by, and for some reason, I always lose them to circumstances. And it stings.

Renee is most probably going back to San Francisco to work. I am sad. :(

Wedding!

Heading to Washington D.C for a wedding this weekend. My good pal Meredith is finally getting married! I say "finally" because we've been excited about her wedding for almost a year now, and she's so enthusiastic about her marriage that one just can't help but feel happy for her. :) Maybe I'll get to try some crabcakes in Maryland. Ha ha. Or even better, maybe Meredith will get drunk. She has this adorable habit of hugging her friends and exclaiming how much she loves them. Last time that happened, I counted 15 times of her doing that to me. Either way, it'll be good to get out of San D. for a bit. Maybe sometime really exciting will happen my way. I'll keep you guys posted.

P.S: Not looking forward to the 7am flight. Sorry Dave, you're a dear for sending me to the airport. :D

Things I lurrve! (and hate)

To compensate for the list of things I hate, and just to make sure I don't come across as a bitter old hag, I'm going to come up with a list of stuff I love! :D
Uh, here goes nothing!

1)Being able to pack everything in a carry-on bag for flights so that I don't have to stand around for my luggage
2)Sleeping till 3 on the weekends
3)Going to PBBG with Renee as the "Brandy & Chanel" duo
4)Weighing myself in the morning(as opposed to night)
5)Catching a whiff of fresh flowers on the way to work
6)Drinking beer on an armchair in front of the ocean
7)Blasting my favorite music in the car
8)Chai tea latte
9)Chanel

Okay, I've exhausted my brain cells. It's so much easier to think of more things I hate.

1)People who ditch their girlfriends for newfound boyfriends
2)Getting my order wrong in a restaurant
3)Getting rain on my shoes
4)Rain.
5)Fat days
6)Vending machines eating up my money
7)Chocolates

Man, I'm so bitter. Ha.

Say yes to foie gras!

So I just heard that California is trying to ban foie gras, on the pretext that the process of fattening the liver is cruel to the goose. Trust California to do something like that. -__- I have nothing against animal rights groups, just that foie gras happens to be my ultimate favorite food in this world! I don't get animal rights activist sometimes. What they need to understand is that we are ALL part of a food chain, and oh, we happen to be omnivores. We are designed to eat both meat and vegetables, so that we can maintain the balance of the ecosystem! What these animal rights activists should spend their time on should be more pressing issues like global warming, ocean pollution which actually ruin our world. So when these activists eat their turkey during Thanksgiving, don't they stop and think: hey, a turkey is actually KILLED for me to eat this. -__- Okay, so the geese are force fed before they are slaughtered, but seriously, what better way to die? The migatory geese used in foie gras have a habit of overeating and packing large amounts of food in their oesaphagus before migration anyway. We're simply supplying the food to them! So, in a way we're like their caterers! We feed them their favorite food! I mean, yea we kill them eventually, but don't we also kill cows, chicken and fish. And you don't even feed them before you kill them! You guys don't know how fortunate they are. Bah! Now I have to go to Vegas for foie gras. Hasta luego foie gras. It's not goodbye forever! :(

My prrreciouss *sobs*

End of my partying days?

Recently, I've found myself to be more and more domesticated. This is not good. I used to sneer at people who would rather stay home and cook (boooring) than eat out, and be annoyed with people who refuse to go out and partay to finish a good book. As a result, I eat out every single day, and go party on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and sometimes Sunday. Recently though, I've been in my saving-money mode. I alternate between that and my wasting-money mode on a regular basis. When I'm in the mood, I would wince over spending a dollar more, weep over gas prices, and cook diligently at home. When it comes to my wasting-money mode, which is about 98% of the time, I don't really care where I eat at, what I buy etc. These couple of weeks, I've been in my saving money mode, and for some reason, I CAN'T SWITCH TO MY WASTING MONEY MODE! Which is good, with thrifty being a virtue, but it also makes me a very boring person. I decline invites to parties, to go out and drink, dinner parties. I am happy with staying at home, I get excited about cooking every meal. Damn, maybe I really am getting old. Sigh. I'm going to eventually lose all my friends and die as a recluse. Alone.

Hyacinth Bar

I recently got back from Singapore. It was one sweet month. I invested with a couple of friends in a bar called Hyacinth on 3 Boon Tat St, and I love it to death. It just opened a month back, so I got a lot of my friends to drop by. Somehow I feel obliged to post some pictures of us in the bar, perhaps for me to look back on it in the future.

The peeps responsible for my lurrvely flower stand. :D I've known all three of them - Yingxiang, Olivia and Caifeng for around 10 years now. Who says nothing can stand the hands of time! :D

Sorry for the lack of captions. I got sick of labeling after the second one. Ha.
