Jenn's week

This week is Jenn's bday week! I got to join her for dinner with her mum and brother at Whisk 'n' ladle, one of my favorite restaurants... I'm definitely bringing Xuan to dine there when he comes. Wee!

I got the pasta with meat sauce (that's supposedly brewed for 20 hrs or something ridiculous like that) as an appetizer.

And Jenn and I both got the lamp chop with sweet peppers and a potato cream pastry sorta thing. The lamb was too tough but the flavor was really good.

And this is the dessert we got two of... tadaa! The panna cotta with almond butter cake crust, salty caramel, and a cherry compote and berry sorbet on top. It's like heaven. Not too sweet, but the mixture of flavors is just amazing.

Went to Fish Market for her bday dinner. There's like 18 of us, and I got the worst food ever.

The seafood marinara. The tomatoes are canned, and the sauce has a sourish tinge to it (prolly due to the parmesan cheese on top of it) and the salmon is overcooked.
Should have stuck to my trusty swordfish. Oh well.

The island creek oysters are good tho, albeit a little costly. Half a dozen for 14 bucks? I'd rather go to crab hut.

The birthday girl!

She just got a chihuahua too, but I personally think it looks like a giant rat. Ha.

High tea victorian style!

So today I went for high tea, and it was pretty good. It was at Westgate Hotel downtown, and the whole place was set in Victorian fashion. Very elegant, very posh. :)

The menu! We get to choose our choice of tea, I chose the peppermint tea cuz I'm sick, but it was very good and refreshing!

My tea! Very big pot, and I finished it. Ha.

Poser shot. Ha.

There was a girl playing the harp right in front of us. She was really good. And quite hot too!

First they served the savories, which included this duck confit with baby spinach puff which was really good. The bruschetta with pesto and tomato wasn't that great, but the proscutti with cucumber was pretty good.

We get to get a lot of little cakes and whatnots with the set menu, but I couldn't eat too much cream, so I just had a taste of everything, and gobbled everything that was without cream. I have to say, everything was pretty good. The cakes weren't too sweet, which was a welcome change from the overly sweet desserts in this country, and the staff were really cordial and nice.

The hot scone was served with devonshire cream, and it was sooooo good. The summer berries in the silver cup was very fresh too!

Okay going to bed early, by the orders of bobo. :)

P.S: The Dark Knight is sooo good. Batman never fails.

Lalala!

My mummy always tells me this when I lose my things : Anything that can be bought with money, don't fret over it. And it always comforts me, because she's right. It's not worth it being unhappy over things that can be bought with money. It's the things that cannot be bought, like friendship and love, that we should be concerned about. :)

I got a pair of Dior shades at Nordstrom yesterday. They were on sale! :D I think I'll get back the Chanel pair too...

Anyways went to Gavin Rossdale's concert yesterday. I don't care for him at all, and have never heard his songs ever, but Jenn is a fervent fan of him.. so. Sigh. The music wasn't bad, but we were on our feet for 3 hours, and that, coupled with my cramps and my flu and cough, was like death upon me. And the crowd...

I took some pictures, we were pretty close to the stage, and had to handle hostile fans too.

Anyways, random stuff, went to Yun's wedding last Saturday. Yun and Tevy are soooo sweet together... like you take one look at them and you know they're blissfully in love... it wasn't easy for them, but they handled it so well. Tevy studies in L.A and Yun 's in my lab, so they alternate weekend trips up and down, and well they were very successful and loving... maybe that'll be me in the near future! Ha ha ha! :D

Yun and me and the absolutely delicious wedding cake...thinking about it makes my stomach groan.

Went to Whisk -n- ladle at downtown La Jolla again, cuz Tom's leaving for a vacation soon... this is my second time here, and it was still as good. Admitted, the menu is kinda limited, but whatever they have on it, is excellent. I had the braised rabbit with potato puree in a red wine and prune sauce. It was beyond excellent. The rabbit was tender and not too tough... the first time I have rabbit! :D

Oh, and I finally saw Tetsuji's baby girl. SOOOO CUTE, I had to post it up!

Okay have to rush out to high tea at the W hotel! Ciao ciao! :D

Bad things come in packs

I lost my Chanel shades. :( Right after I had the lens and the crystals replaced no less. And I feel shitty. Shittier than last year when I left my Gucci ones in the changing room of A&F. I think at this rate, by the time I hit 50, Imma have like 20 over sunglasses boxes with nothing but air in them... :( And I really like this pair. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Why does bad things always happen to me when I'm sick. I also lost like one side of my favorite pair of earrings like yesterday. And now I'm just in my withdrawal phase where I'd rather go blind from the sunlight driving rather than buy another pair... Blech.

Sorry for this ridiculously aimless post, I just needed to vent. I really don't understand why I keep losing something as big as my sunglasses all the time. :( Shitty health, shitty day, shitty life. Thank God my loved ones still love me... like xuanxuan and my family. :)

My sister

At this rate, Imma move on to my dad, my grandma, my other sister et cetera. Ha.

I was reading my sister's blog today, and she wrote a short piece about me...apparently I am constantly talking in the house, and I am messy, and have loads of toiletries... and she misses that... I miss you too sis! Eh, so remember next time I'm back, to stop nagging me about my mess, appreciate it while you can! Hohoho. :P

She also wrote down part of this chinese song which I shall ask her to send to me, so I guess I was the 风筝 in her msn nick in the last few days... so touched! And I was unaware of it the whole time...GeeA.

看你穿越雲端飛得很高
站在山上的我大聲叫
也許你呀 不會聽到
把夢想找到
要過得更好

I love you sis...MWAH. :D

My mummy

Been sick the last couple of days, and it was horrid, yet comforting and heartwarming. In my utterly miserable state of slipping in and out of feverish sleep, my mum was always there to take care of me, to make me feel better.

I used to take her love for granted when I was younger, that it was only right that she tucks me in at night, and cooks me what I wanted to eat, and buys me what I wanted! It was only when I left home to further my studies, that I realize that her unconditional love should be appreciated, and never taken for granted.

My friends always speak of their mums, and well I came to realize over the years that not all mums offer love like my mum did. And yesterday I couldn't help but tear at the prospect of leaving because I can't bear to leave her.

The first night I fell sick, my fever didn't go away the whole night. I couldn't sleep well because I was burning up, and my mum didn't sleep much either...because throughout the night, she was making sure I was wearing my socks, making sure that I didn't kick off my blanket, making sure that I drank my glucose water, making sure that my blanket was wrapped around me like a cocoon, and making sure to wipe the sweat off my forehead...

The next day, early morning, she was already up and out buying porridge for me, and buying back barley and cooking barley for me because the doc said I couldn't drink water. And that she did for the next two days, making sure I have something I can eat when it's time for my medication, making sure that I was getting better...... The worry lines on my mum's face were so deep that my heart ached so much. I wanted to get better faster for her so bad......

Even when I was all the way over in the states, she would call me everyday. At the same time after 9pm everyday, because I get free calls after nine. She's always so considerate, but more often than not, I brushed her aside because of work or other stuff......

One of my all-time favorite quotes is "We enter the world alone, we leave the world alone". Only now did I realize that I didn't enter the world alone. I enter the world with my mum right by me...

Sick, can't fly.

Been sick for the past four days... for the past three days, I've been at home trying to get better. I thought I was going to go home yesterday, so imagine my conflicted feelings when all my body wanted to do on the last day I was in Singapore was to sleep. I think I slept pretty much the last two days away. Sigh. Luckily I managed to delay my flight without paying the penalty. Guess Cathay isn't that atrocious after all. It sucks that I can 't eat anything but porridge in my remaining days here tho. Sigh, such is life.

There is a saying in Chinese which goes like this "人言可畏", which I've found to be very true. To translate it loosely, it means the power of the words of Mankind is frightening".

I came across this letter written to me from a member of the orientation group I was taking care of in VJC days. It was from this girl called Dan Lin, who I was pretty close for a decent amount of time before we started becoming more distant.

The contents of the letter simply expressed her thanks for me taking care of her during orientation, and how she is touched by the members of the orientation group. What got me to mention this in this blog entry was that she mentioned that people had been spreading rumors about me, that I was petty, cold and bitchy. She went on to say that she was glad that she didn't believe any of those rumors, and glad that she got to know me for who I was.

I wonder what is it that spurns people to spread rumors like that? I've never tried to be a high-profile figure. I never tried to make everyone my friend. I've always been very honest with my feelings. I can't fake and try to be nice to someone I dislike. My close friends all know that, and appreciate me for my honesty. I don't think I have deliberately or maliciously tried to hurt someone just for the heck of it.

So who is it who keeps spreading rumors about me? And what is his/her motive? All my life, I just wanted a few close friends and I'm content. I don't really care, or judge what other people are doing. I'd much rather spend my energy managing my own life and caring for my loved ones. Why can't people leave one another alone?

Now that I'm older, and people around me more mature, the rumors die down. Is it because I'm in California, where people are more free-spirited and less biased? Or is it because rumors are just a mere act of childishness and immaturity? Maybe growing old has its perks, after all. Heh.
